City of Tiny Lights (Pete Travis)

Small-time private detective Tommy Akhtar (Riz Ahmed) has all the swagger of a hard-boiled snoop: leather jacket on his shoulders and cigarette in his mouth, leaning against London architecture in the darkened night. His office resides above some shops, he makes friendly with local convenience store owner Mrs. Elbaz (Myriam Acharki), and asks new clients where they found him because he’s not advertising in the paper.

Here's Your First Look at Dumbo in Tim Burton's Live-Action Adaptation with Casting and Plot Details

It was announced at Disney's D23 Expo that Tim Burton had started production on his live action adaptation of Dumbo. They also confirmed the cast, offered some story details, and even brought out a life-size prop of Dumbo to show off, which you can see above! He looks so freakin' adorable! The ears on the prop were floppy and everything! I love the character design. It's completely in line with the original design of the animated version, especially in the eyes.

In case you're wondering who will star in the film, they've got Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, and Eva Green, who have all previously worked with Burton. The movie also introduces Nico Parker and Finley Hobbins in their first film roles. The cast also includes Roshan Seth, DeObia Oparei, Sharon Rooney and Douglas Reith.

‘City of Tiny Lights’ Review

Stars: Riz Ahmed, Billie Piper, James Floyd, Roshan Seth, Cush Jumbo | Written by Patrick Neate | Directed by Pete Travis

I could watch Riz Ahmed in almost anything, but there are limits, tested here by this deeply mediocre British mystery thriller. Adapted by Patrick Neate from his 2005 novel, City of Tiny Lights is helmed by Pete Travis, who in 2012 nearly rescued Judge Dredd from comic book movie hell. But while Travis transposes some of Dredd’s style, he cannot bring its boldness, humour or efficiency.

Ahmed plays Tommy Akhtar, a “snoop” who is so underground that even his job description is unclear. Basically, he’s a private detective. One day he’s visited by a working woman named Melody (Cush Jumbo). Her flatmate is missing. Tommy investigates and finds the body of a Pakistani businessman. It’s a discovery that will bring him into close contact with two blasts from his

Movie Review – City of Tiny Lights (2016)

City of Tiny Lights, 2016.

Directed by Pete Travis.

Starring Riz Ahmed, Billie Piper, James Floyd, Cush Jumbo, Roshan Seth, and Antonio Aakeel.

Synopsis:

Meet Tommy Akhtar (Riz Ahmed), cricket fan, devoted son to an ailing father and deadbeat private eye. He’s got an office above a cab firm, a taste for cigarettes and bourbon, and a finely tuned moral compass that he keeps hidden behind a sharp cynicism. When Tommy walks into his office one morning to find high-class prostitute Melody seeking his help, he’s launched into a story that plays as an utterly original modern noir.

To declare Riz Ahmed as having “a bit of a moment” would be an understatement. To stumble on a piece of media without him making an appearance takes certain effort. He’s seemingly in everything, from bit part roles – maybe glorified cameos – in Girls and Netflix’ baffling The Oa to his
