‘Elementary’ To End After 7 Seasons On CBS

  • Deadline
Exclusive: CBS’ modern-day Sherlock Holmes & Watson drama series Elementary will end its run with its upcoming 13-episode seventh season. The decision comes as the crime procedural, created by Rob Doherty and starring Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, wrapped production Friday on Season 7 with the final scene in the finale the last one to film.

I hear that when the network renewed Elementary for a seventh season in May less than two weeks into its Season 6 run, a decision was made that it would be the series’ final chapter.

“A lot of parties came together and talked about their positions on the show — both in terms of business and in terms of creative — and we all decided that this was an opportune time to say goodbye to a show that has been very, very good to us,” CBS Entertainment President Kelly Kahl said.

Added executive producer Carl Beverly: “Rob

‘Russian Doll’: Netflix Reveals Release Date for Natasha Lyonne Dark Comedy
Natasha Lyonne has had an epic career, beginning with her early days as a child star and continuing with roles like the lead role of “Slums of Beverly Hills” and the most sardonic inmate at Litchfield in “Orange Is the New Black.” But her newests Netflix series could be the showcase she’s been looking for since the beginning. “Russian Doll,” co-created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler, and Leslye Headland, is set to premiere February 1, 2019, on Netflix.

The official synopsis reads as follows: “‘Russian Doll’ follows a young woman named Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City.”

Vague, but intriguing. What that means for Nadia and her sanity is a question that the show will have to answer, but considering that playwright and filmmaker Headland co-created it, the story will be accompanied by the writer/director’s trademark wry wit,

TV Shows We Quit in 2018

  • Variety
With approximately 500 scripted series premiering new seasons in 2018, sometimes it feels like the television landscape is like a bubble. If it keeps getting inflated larger and larger, eventually something will have to give and it will pop, right? Well, maybe not for the platforms on which these shows are released — after all, new ones are created there often, as well. However, for the average television viewer — and even members of Variety‘s dedicated, professional staff — the limit has been reached.

Here, Variety staff selects the series they had to leave behind in 2018 — from the longest-running staple of Dick Wolf’s “One Chicago” franchise, to the headline-grabbing “Roseanne,” to Emmy darling “Saturday Night Live.”

Chicago Fire” (NBC)

File this one under: probably about time. After being invested (enough) for six seasons to want to be a completist, it came time to say goodbye to this first of Dick Wolf’s “One

‘Chicago’ Dramas Get Additional Episodes

  • Deadline
NBC has ordered two extra episodes each from each of its Chicago drama series, Chicago Fire, Chicago Pd and Chicago Med. The pickups, revealed by Chicago Pd executive producer/director Eriq Lasalle on Friday, bring the orders for all three shows to 22.

The extra episode order reflects the ratings success NBC has had this fall with the #OneChicago-branded lineup on Wednesday, the first time three Chicago series have aired on the same night.

The increase brings the episode count for all three Chicago series to full-season 22.

Flagship Chicago Fire, now in its seventh season, has always produced at least 22 episodes a season, sometime as many as 24. The same goes for spinoff Chicago Pd, now in its sixth season, which also has aired 22 episodes or more except for its first season, which launched in midseason. Chicago Med, which is in its fourth season, aired 23 episodes in its second season, which started in September,

Replicas Trailer #2: Keanu Reeves Defies Science with Scary Results

A brand new trailer for Replicas is here to provide a serious dose of trippy sci-fi. And not just sci-fi. This is sci-fi with Keanu Reeves and robot clones! Reeves built up a lot of good will with moviegoers when he suited up as the assassin John Wick, but it was really The Matrix that cemented him as the icon we all know and (sometimes) love today. So seeing him return to that genre comes with a certain potential excitement. Not to say that this looks like it could be a classic like The Matrix, but there may very well be some meat on these bones.

The trailer opens up with a tragic car accident. We then transition to a seemingly normal suburban existence for Keanu Reeves and his seemingly perfect family. But things soon get weird as it's revealed that Reeves' whole family died in the accident and he

Why “Chicago Fire” Can Last 20 Seasons

Chicago Fire is a drama on NBC that’s been running for a number of seasons now. The current season is arguably one of the better ones that they’ve had in quite some time. It’s a show that definitely started with a bang and it has continued to build on a lot of the storylines as they have evolved over the years. Some people even argue that the show could theoretically continue on for as long as 20 years. You might scoff at the idea, especially when you consider the fact that almost no scripted television show is capable of lasting
